Springfield 1911 EMP 9mm Essentials Package With G-10 Grips Review

The Springfield 1911 EMP 9mm Essentials Package with G-10 Grips is a very interesting gun. It's a small, slim-profile pistol that's designed to be used for concealed carry purposes. It's an impressive little pistol that combines some really excellent components and features to make it one of the most enticing pistols of its type.

The EMP stands for Enhanced Micro Pistol, and it's an innovative little gun that really changes what a 1911 can be. It's a small pistol, but it still includes all the standard features that you might expect from a 1911, such as low profile 3-Dot tritium combat sights and a fully supported, ramped barrel. It's a compact pistol, but it also holds 10 rounds in the magazine.

In the beginning, it seemed like there were some problems with the way that the EMP handled ammunition. There were reports of hit-or-miss feeding problems, both as a general matter and specifically with some kinds of ammo. This was largely due to the fact that the EMP utilized a barrel-integrated feed ramp rather than the more common frame-mounted one.

These feeding issues were eventually addressed, and the EMP is now a very reliable and accurate gun that handles ammunition quite well. It's a bit on the heavy side for a carry pistol, weighing in at 27 ounces unloaded, but it's an easy-to-carry gun that's a great option for OWB or IWB use. As far as disassembly goes, the EMP is fairly straightforward to take apart for cleaning. There's a pin that you push out from the right side of the gun, and then it's pretty easy to remove the slide, the recoil spring assembly, and the barrel. Reassembling the gun is a little more involved than with most polymer striker-fired guns, but it's still not too bad.

The only negative with the EMP is that the magwell has very little bevel to it, so speed reloading is going to take a little longer than with most double-stack 1911s. It's a minor niggle, though.
